Francois-Eugene Vidocq (1775-1857) The World’s 1st Private Detective Vidocq established “Le Bureau des Renseignements” January 3rd, 1834, and had a colorful career. There’s no argument that Vidocq’s 1828 romantic Memoires, served as source material for: Balzac, Dickens, Doyle, Dumas, Hugo, and Poe. The PI Museum collection includes a copy of the English translation of this fascinating personal account of the world’s first Private Eye.
